Events on Kallax.io range from a small game night at home to open play at a café or a full convention. You can browse events near you or create your own.

Find events

Open Events from the main menu to see upcoming events on a list and a map. Use the filters to narrow things down:
  • Date Range, or the shortcuts Today, Weekend and Upcoming.
  • Event Types, such as game nights, tournaments or conventions.
  • Game Plan, to find events playing a game you like.
  • Location.
Click Clear All to start over. Past events are kept in the event archive.

Respond to an event

Open an event and use the response button to say whether you are coming:
  • Going
  • Interested
  • Not attending
If the event is full, you will see Going (full). If the host allows it, choose Join waitlist instead and you will get a seat if one frees up. No account? You can still reply with a one-click guest account. See What is a guest account? Use Export to Calendar to add the event to Google Calendar, Outlook, or any calendar app with an .ICS File. Click list of participants to see who has replied.

Create an event

Click Create Game Event on the Events page.

Basics

Give your event a Title, pick the Date, Start time, End date and End time, and choose Where is the event held? You can pick an address or one of the communities on Kallax.io, such as a board game café.

Listing details (public events)

For public events, pick an Event Type (Board Game Night, Meetup, Open Play, Tournament, Trade show, Convention or Virtual / Online), a Pricing Model and optionally a link to the event’s webpage. Add a location so others can find it on the map.

Turn on any of the optional features described below.

Invite people

Share the event link, or send invites by email. You need a verified email address in Settings to send email invites.

Optional event features

List up to 5 board games you intend to play, so guests know what to expect.
Not sure when to meet? Add some time slots and let people say which date and time suits them best. Turn on Attendees can suggest timeslots to let guests propose their own.
Let everyone vote on which games to play.
  • Votes per participant: how many games each person can vote for.
  • Scoring method:
    • Euro-style: ranked voting where favourites score extra (12, 10, 8, 7, 5 …).
    • Borda method: ranked voting with evenly decreasing points.
    • Simple majority: every vote counts the same. Good for knocking games out.
  • Vote visibility:
    • Public: everyone sees votes and results.
    • Reveal: votes and results are shown 15 minutes before the event starts.
    • Reveal, Anonymous: results are shown 15 minutes before the start, votes stay anonymous.
    • Anonymous: results are public, votes are anonymous.
  • Poll Auto-Close At: close the vote automatically at a set time.
  • Attendees can suggest games to play, with a limit on Suggestions per participant (0 means unlimited).
Guests suggest games from the Search page, so they can pick from their own collections. The host can end and reopen voting at any time.
Coordinate who brings what. Guests choose games from their collection with Bring this game, so you do not end up with three copies of the same game and nothing else.
Add a group chat for participants on the event page. See Chat.
Show guests which games are available to play: games owned by the Host only or by All participants.
Set a number of Available seats (0 means unlimited). Seats go to whoever says Going first. Turn on Waitlist when full to let others queue for a seat.

Repeat an event

Hosting a regular game night? Use the repeat option on your event to create copies on new dates. You can choose whether to:
  • Invite everyone from the original event, or send no invites.
  • Copy the suggested games into the new polls (votes are not copied), or start with empty polls.
  • Share one chat across all the events, or give each event its own chat.

Edit or delete an event

As the host, open the event and choose edit. You can change everything later. Under Advanced Settings you can also delete the event, including its invites, poll and hauling list. You do not need to delete old events: they are archived automatically.
