# Use Kallax.io with AI assistants

> Connect Claude or another AI assistant to Kallax.io to find games, search collections and discover events and communities near you.

Kallax.io has an MCP server. Connect it to an AI assistant and ask questions in plain language, such as "What 2-player games under an hour does my friend have?" or "Are there any game nights near Copenhagen this weekend?"

The server is **read-only**. It only shows what anyone could see on Kallax.io without signing in, and it can't change anything.

## What you can ask for

| Tool | What it does |
| - | - |
| **Find board games** (`find_games`) | Search the Kallax.io catalogue by title, player count, playtime, designer, complexity and game type. Returns the 10 most popular matches. |
| **Search a board game collection** (`search_collection`) | Search the games owned or wishlisted by a Kallax.io user or community, with the same filters. Returns every match, ordered by title. |
| **Find board game events nearby** (`find_events_nearby`) | Find public events near a location, filtered by date and event type. Returns the 10 closest. |
| **Find board game communities nearby** (`find_communities_nearby`) | Find cafés, clubs, stores and groups near a location, each with its next public events. Returns the 10 closest. |

Every result links back to its page on Kallax.io.

## Connect with Claude

Kallax.io is listed in the Claude connector directory.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the directory page">
    Go to [claude.ai/directory/kallax-io](https://claude.ai/directory/kallax-io).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add the connector">
    Click **Connect** and follow the prompts.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Ask away">
    Start a chat and ask about games, collections, events or communities. Claude uses Kallax.io when it helps answer.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Connect with another assistant

Other assistants that support remote MCP servers can connect as a custom MCP server. You don't need an account or an API key.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Find the custom MCP setting">
    In your assistant, look for where you add a custom or remote MCP server. It is often called **Connectors**, **Integrations** or **MCP servers**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter the server address">
    Use this URL, with the **Streamable HTTP** transport if you are asked to choose:

    ```text theme={null}
    https://kallax.io/mcp
    ```
  </Step>

  <Step title="Skip authentication">
    Leave authentication empty or choose **None**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

For command-line tools, you usually add the address with one command. In Claude Code, for example:

```bash theme={null}
claude mcp add --transport http kallax https://kallax.io/mcp
```

## Example questions

* "Find cooperative games for 4 players that take about 45 minutes."
* "What games by Uwe Rosenberg are on the wishlist of the user `alice`?"
* "Which games in the library of Meeple Café support 6 players?"
* "Are there any tournaments within 50 km of Berlin next month?"
* "Which board game cafés are near me, and what do they have on this week?"

## Things to know

* **Collections must be public.** To search a collection, give a Kallax.io username, a community name, or both. A community needs to be listed and have its game library open to guests. See [Communities](/guides/communities) and [Your profile](/guides/profile).
* **Only public events show up.** Events that aren't public are never returned.
* **Locations use coordinates.** The assistant turns a place name into latitude and longitude for you. The radius defaults to 25 km and can be up to 100 km.
* **Times are in UTC.** Ask your assistant to convert them to your local time.
* **Results are capped.** Game and location searches return up to 10 results, so narrow your question to see others.

<Tip>
  Want your own games to be searchable by assistants? [Create a free account](/guides/account-types) and [add your games](/guides/collection). Your public collection is then available to anyone you share your username with.
