# Play logging

> Log the games you play at the table: who played, the scores, who won and how long it took.

<Info>
  Play logging is in **beta**. It may change, and only people who opted in to the beta can see it. See [Get beta access](#get-beta-access).
</Info>

Play logging keeps a record of the games you play. It tracks two different things, so it can describe how people really play:

* A **session** is *when and where*: a game night, an afternoon at a café, an evening of a campaign.
* A **play** is *what and who*: one game, the people who played it, their scores and the result.

That means you can log several games played in the same sitting, and a single game that stretches over several days.

Start a game at the table, keep it open while you play, and finish it when the game is over.

## Get beta access

## How it fits together

| Term | What it is |
| - | - |
| **Play** | One game, from setup to result: the players, their scores and who won. A long game played over several evenings is still one play. |
| **Session** | One sitting, such as a game night. It holds every game played, with the date, the place and notes. |
| **Score template** | How a game is scored: one score per player, rounds, a scoring sheet, a ranking or just win or lose. Templates are remembered for the next play and can be shared with the community. |
| **Player** | Someone in a play: you, a friend on Kallax.io, a guest identity or a guest. |
| **Guest identity** | Someone you play with who isn't linked to a Kallax.io account: a name you can pick again, and link to their account later. Only you see your guest identities. |
| **Guest** | Someone in a single play without a name of their own, shown as "Guest 2". |

## What it does for you

* **Scoring that fits the game.** Kamisado is simply won or lost. Azul can be won, drawn or lost, with a score. Wingspan scores birds, eggs, food, bonus cards, goals and tucked cards. In 878 Vikings you may want to note which team and faction each player had. See [Scoring and results](/experimental/scoring).
* **The right scoring, picked for you.** Kallax.io picks the last score template you used for the game, or the most popular community-made one if you haven't used one yet.
* **Expansions you own, suggested.** The expansions in your collection show up for the game, so ticking off what you used is quick.
* **A timer you can pause**, to record more accurate play times.
* **Confirmed scores.** When you add another Kallax.io account to a play, they can confirm the score. The play also shows in their own history, so only one person needs to log it.
* **Guests, so nobody is left out.** Not everyone is on Kallax.io (yet). Add them by name, and if they join later, link them to their new account to give them all their plays.
* **Events** (coming soon): Kallax.io will notice when you're taking part in an event and suggest linking your session to it.

## Your plays

Open **Play History** in the menu to see:

* **In progress**: games you haven't finished yet, such as the one on the table now or a campaign you continue next week.
* **Sessions**: your sessions, newest first and grouped by month. Each session lists its games with the players, the scores, the winner and the time played. Your own games are shown first; games other people logged in the same session are folded away.

Open a game to see it, or a session to see the whole sitting. Use **Log a play** to start a new game.

Statistics about your plays, and about your community's, are coming soon.

## Who sees your plays

Your plays are private. A play is seen by:

* you;
* the friends you added to it;
* everyone else in the same session, because the people in a session all see the whole session.

Nobody else sees it. Only the person who logged a play can change it. See [Players and identities](/experimental/players-and-identities).
